Metrara researches keywords and writes Google Ads copy for a product or service: keywords, headlines, descriptions, negative keywords and sitelinks. Metrara never changes anything in your Google Ads account; you copy the result and paste it into Google Ads yourself.

1. Open Write an ad

You find the same panel in two places:

  • Actions, Google Ads ad.
  • SEA, Take action, Write ad. See SEA.

When Google Ads is connected, you choose between New ad group, Extend an existing group and Find opportunities. Without a Google Ads connection you can only create a new ad group. See Google Ads.

2. Create a new ad group

For a product or service that has no ad group of its own yet.

  1. Open New ad group.
  2. Under Campaign, choose New campaign or an existing campaign. This field appears when Google Ads is connected.
  3. Fill in Product or service.
  4. Fill in the Landing page as a full address (https://…). The field suggests pages of your site, and Metrara reads the page before writing.
  5. Optionally fill in Seed words (optional, separated by commas): words customers search with. Empty means Metrara starts from the product or service.
  6. Choose the Market: Netherlands, Germany, France, United Kingdom or United States.
  7. Click Create keywords and ad. This takes about a minute.

Keywords that are already in your account are skipped.

3. Extend an existing group

  1. Open Extend an existing group.
  2. Under Ad group, choose a group. The list shows only running search campaigns and groups. Below the list you see the clicks and conversions of the last 90 days and the free headline slots.
  3. Optionally fill in Product or service (optional), Landing page and Seed words.
  4. Click Suggest additions.

Metrara reads the keywords, headlines and descriptions already in the group and the search terms that converted there, and suggests additions only: New keywords, New headlines for the free slots and New descriptions. When an ad already has 15 headlines or 4 descriptions, you get Stronger headlines to replace weak ones or Descriptions to replace.

4. Find opportunities

  1. Open Find opportunities.
  2. Choose the Market.
  3. Click Find opportunities.

Metrara compares the search terms of the last 90 days with the keywords in your account. Search terms that converted or got at least 5 clicks and are not a keyword yet become opportunities. Each opportunity shows:

  • The type: Extend group, New group or New campaign.
  • The campaign and ad group, with a one-line reason.
  • The keywords with their conversions, clicks or search volume.

Click Write copy to fill in the form with that opportunity and write the ad.

If nothing turns up, you see No clear opportunities found: the search terms that convert are already keywords in the account. Finding opportunities requires running search campaigns with ad groups.

5. Keyword Planner: free keyword volumes

When Google Ads is connected, Metrara gets search volume and CPC from the Google Keyword Planner at no extra cost. Next to the button you see Keywords via the Keyword Planner: free.

Without the Keyword Planner, Metrara uses its keyword database. You then see Keywords cost 1 extra credit because the Keyword Planner is not linked. Find opportunities then looks only at search terms from the account, without extra keyword ideas.

6. The result

The result shows the product or service, the campaign, the landing page and a short explanation of the setup. Per Ad group (one to three groups) you get:

  • Keywords: with Volume and CPC. Exact match is shown as [keyword], phrase match as "keyword".
  • Headlines: 15 headlines of at most 30 characters, with a character count.
  • Descriptions: 4 descriptions of at most 90 characters.
  • Display path.

Below the groups you find Negative keywords and four Sitelinks.

Metri writes in your tone of voice and bases the copy on what is on the landing page. If the page cannot be read, the copy mentions no specific facts, prices or delivery times. Keywords come only from the keyword data, never from the AI. Texts that exceed Google's limits are left out. See Tone of voice.

7. Copy the ad into Google Ads

  1. Click Copy next to Keywords, Headlines, Descriptions or Negative keywords. Each item goes on its own line.
  2. Paste the list in Google Ads.

Made before lists your last ads. Click one to open it again.

8. Credits

  • Create keywords and ad and Suggest additions: 2 credits with the Keyword Planner, 3 without.
  • Find opportunities: 1 credit.

See Credits.
