You see whether a page is blocked, never visited or visited and not included.
1. Before you start
- Connect Google Search Console for the business. See Google Analytics and Search Console.
- Metrara needs the pages of your site. If you see There are no pages on the map yet. Load the sitemap first., load the sitemap under SEO first.
Index check costs no credits.
2. Run the check
- Open the Actions tab and click Index check.
- Choose the Business.
- Under No impressions in…, choose the last 7 days, the last 14 days or the last 28 days.
- Click Check.
Metrara first finds the silent pages in Search Console, then asks Google about each one. A progress bar shows how many pages are checked. With many silent pages this can take a while.
3. How the window works
Search Console runs 2 to 3 days behind. The window therefore ends 3 days ago and counts back from there. Otherwise almost every page would look silent, including your best ones.
Only content pages are checked. Functional pages, such as the cart, are left out.
4. Read the results
At the top you see four figures:
- Period: the window that was measured.
- Pages: the number of content pages.
- Got impressions: pages that were shown in Google.
- Stayed silent: pages that were checked with Google.
Below that the pages are grouped:
- Real problems: pages marked Problem.
- Are in Google, but are not being shown: pages marked Attention.
Each page shows the page type, the explanation, what Google says: and when Google last crawled it, or never crawled.
If all pages got impressions, you see All pages received impressions. Nothing is silent.
5. What to do per result
- Blocked by robots.txt: Google cannot visit the page. Adjust your robots.txt.
- Noindex: the page tells Google not to index it. Remove the noindex setting if that was not intended.
- Unknown to Google: the page is probably not in your sitemap and nothing links to it. Add it to the sitemap and link to it.
- Discovered, not crawled: Google knows the page but never visited it. Link to it from pages that perform well. Writing more text does not help here.
- Crawled, not indexed: Google visited the page and chose not to include it. Improve the content: make it more complete and distinct from other pages.
- Duplicate: Google sees the page as a copy of another page. Check which page should be the main version.
- Indexed, but no impressions: this is not an indexing problem. Google does not find the page relevant for any search yet.
6. Request indexing
Metrara cannot submit pages to Google. The Request indexing button only exists in Search Console itself.
- Fix the problem on the page.
- Click Open in Search Console → next to the page.
- Click Request indexing in Search Console.
Google allows roughly 10 to 12 requests per day, so start with your most important pages.
